I sometimes like to think of Hann as my alter ego – which is, of course, an egregious case of self-flattery, as she is much more intelligent and dynamic than I will ever be. But throughout undergrad and beyond, we’ve always shared similar questions about the Life Path: we were both interested in science, but we also knew we wanted to do more than just research. So I went to grad school, while she worked at a biotech and went to business school, and then – lo and behold – we both ended up in consulting.
It was on a work trip to Boston that I got to spend a Saturday third-wheeling with Hann and her fiancé (read: her actual alter ego) Kun at the deCordova Sculpture Park. During undergrad, I once took an epic solo Saturday trip to the museum, traveling from Cambridge to Lincoln by bike and T and commuter rail and bike again – a crazy endeavor in those pre-smartphone (!) days. As luck would have it, it also started pouring rain as I finally reached the museum, giving me only a few moments to actually wander among the quirky larger-than-life installations. This time, we drove – hooray for adulthood – and I enjoyed a beautiful, sunny afternoon in the park with some of my favorite people, the perfect mix for an impromptu engagement session.
